Session Overview and Target Audience
The purpose of this session is to discuss quality in bariatric surgery as it pertains to improvement in patient outcomes, lowering of health care costs and improvement in the overall patient experience. This session is intended for attending surgeons, residents and medical students. Additionally, it should be attended by integrated health professionals, nurses, dieticians and other medical personnel involved in the care of bariatric patients.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Interpret the history and purpose of accreditation.
- Discuss the variability in clinical pathways utilized to care for bariatric patients.
- Explain the rationale, methodology and benefit of peer review and bad outcomes.
- Review quality initiatives being put forward to improve outcomes, patient care and healthcare costs.
