Panel Session: IFSO Asia Pacific - Bariatric Surgery in the Low BMI Asian Patient Population
Session Overview and Target Audience
This session will overview the physiological variation between western and Asian populations, and provide the update on the current bariatric surgery practice in low BMI patients in Asia. Discussions will be interactive to address the treatment options for low BMI obese adults and adolescents. The target audience includes surgeons, medical physicians and allied health members caring for diabetic and/or obese patients and researchers studying obesity and diabetes.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Explore the physiological uniqueness in Asian population.
- Evaluate the outcome of bariatric surgery in low BMI Asian patients.
- Describe multi-disciplinary management of mild obesity in Asian adolescents.
- Discuss the rational and outcome optimization of bariatric surgery in low BMI patients.
