Presented by International Society for the Perioperative Care of the Obese Patient
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Summarize practical implications of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in morbidly obese patients suffering from acute postoperative hypercapnic/hypoxic respiratory failure and explain how to avoid reintubation.
- Appraise specific perioperative risks associated with childhood obesity and incident bronchial asthma and develop a process to ensure safe delivery of anesthesia for the obese-asthmatic child.
- Identify alternatives to opioids and employ them strategically to optimize pain management in the morbidly obese patient.
